Apparently, number of mothers having anxiety over DIY birthday planning are increasing steadily. In time of Facebook and Pinterest birthdays, it is indeed stressful to meet those high expectations set by perfectly coordinated birthdays.
To bring fun back into birthday planning, here are my 3 f’s that ensure your child has a memorable birthday while ensuring you are not driving yourself insane trying to plan a themed party where invitations to favors everything needs to be coordinated.
What are three things that any child care about in a birthday Party?
Fun, Food, and Favor!
Some of the best birthday’s that I have attended had nothing to do with DIY pop-up invitations or neatly arranged matching plates and forks.
Fun:
Do you really need to worry about theme of the birthday? As long as there are fun activities kids will enjoy.
One of the birthday I attended had couple of games played in backyard and had no decorations. There was no theme or I should say the theme was to have fun!
I still remember the joy on the face of the kids as well as their parents. I know birthday child’s parents did not spend hours planning these games neither did they shell out ton of money for activities.
Food:
Do kids really care about neatly decorated fruit skewers or glittered cake pops? I had attended one such birthday. Yes parents were impressed but none of the kids cared !
On the other hand, one other party I attended, kids were sitting on floor and enjoying home made food served directly out of pots and pans. They were chatting , laughing and gobbling down warm food cooked with love and care.
If you do not wish to make food at home, pizza is always there! Every kid enjoy pizzas, and with some fruits and crackers, you can make a healthy (at least somewhat!) meal out of it.
Favor:
Instead of planning separate favor, it is possible try to have a favor that is utilized in the celebration e.g item created by kids during painting or crafting activity, items used during scavenger hunt etc.
I have used water gun in past during backyard party and then handed out to kids as party favor along with bubble solution.
Hope these pointers help you bring fun back into birthday planning and help you plan fabulous birthday party that your child will remember for years to come.
Don’t let pressure of organizing best looking birthday robe you out of pure fun of innocent birthdays.
